Wind is energy.
And now, British Columbia is enabling the development of its renewable wind energy resources.
BC Hydro in 2006 awarded 325 MW in Energy Purchase Agreements to three independent wind projects, including the 180 MW Dokie Wind Project. The Dokie Wind Project is slated for construction in the Peace region of British Columbia and is one of the largest wind energy projects under development in Canada.
The $400 million project is being developed by Dokie Wind Energy Inc. (DWE), a joint venture partnership of Earth First Energy - and Creststreet Capital of Calgary and Toronto.
When completed in 2010, the Dokie Wind Project will provide enough clean renewable energy to power some 53,000 homes, equivalent to a BC average city of more than 130,000 people. The project will bring significant environmental benefits to all British Columbians, displacing some 180,000 tonnes of C02 emissions annually. This is equivalent to approximately 40,000 passenger cars not driven for one year, or about 150,000 acres of pine or fir forests storing carbon for one year.
